The Two Masters

The Two Masters

Yes indeed, riches and honour, enduring wealth and prosperity are in the wisdom of God (Proverbs 8:18). And we have been called into the fullness of this wisdom by our new birth. Wealth and riches are part of the things that have been freely given to us; part of the things which accompanied our salvation. It takes wealth to rightly represent Christ on the earth since the wisdom of a poor man is despised and his words are not heard (Ecclesiastes 9:16).

Our God is a glorious God and gold is one of the things found in his glory. Even though we enjoy the gold in his glory and other good material things, our hearts should not be attached to these things. Wealth and riches are extra bonuses we enjoy after we lay hold of the kingdom of God and his way of being right. We are compelled, only by the love of Christ to do what we do. The depths of our heart earnestly yearn for more of Christ; more knowledge of his love and to go deeper in fellowship with him. We seek to know him and the power of his resurrection. For us, if we live is Christ and should we die it’s gain.

This is why I mourn in my spirit when I see some Christians so fixated on gold instead of the glory. They are slaves to money without even knowing; making decisions because of money. Christians who can’t give their all to God. Though they sing “I surrender all” they are yet holding fast to their material possessions.
A Christian who cannot easily give out material things is a slave to those things. Do not be deceived, “No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money” Luke16:13.

According to Jesus, there are two maters; God and money. Money is a very powerful entity which has enslaved many in the world. Are you worried because of money? Are you making decisions because of money instead of the leading of the Holy Spirit? Or do you find it difficult to give out money? If your answer to these questions are yes, then money has taken hold of you.

God is not against you having money, but he is against money taking hold of you. To enjoy the gold in the Lord’s glory, learn to overcome the power of money over your life. Don’t be afraid to give even if that is your last. Learn to “take no thoughts of yourself what you shall eat or what you shall drink or what you shall wear” Matthew 6:31 because “he who loves himself shall lose his life and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal” John 12:25. Be lord over money and enjoy the lordship of Jesus Christ.
